Privacy policy

1. What we collect
- Your account: your email address, username, password (stored only as a secure hash by our sign-in provider) and anything you add to your profile, such as a display name, avatar, bio and links.
- What you post and upload: forum posts, games and their files, covers, descriptions, updates and bonus content.
- What you do on the site: the works on your shelf, likes, which topics you've read up to (for unread counts), reports you make, and any supporter tiers you hold.
- Technical data: like any website, our hosts receive your IP address and browser details when you visit, and keep short-lived logs for security and debugging.
We don't sell your data, show ads, or use third-party analytics or tracking.
2. How we use it
To run Nook: signing you in, showing your posts and works, keeping unread counts and your shelf, sending the emails you need (such as confirming your address or resetting your password), keeping the community safe (moderation and reports), and fixing problems.
3. What's public
Your username, display name, avatar, bio, profile links, forum posts, published works and likes are visible to anyone. Your email address, your shelf and your read positions are not. Supporters-only material is visible only to the author and the supporters it's meant for. When you delete a post its text is removed from public view; moderators can still see it for safety reasons.
4. Games and saves
Games run from a separate address in a sandbox. Saved progress in a game is stored in your own browser, not on Nook's servers, so clearing your browser data clears your saves. Games are made by their authors; a game could contain links or content from elsewhere. See the hosting rules for what games may and may not do.
5. Embedded images and links
Posts and descriptions can show images from other websites. When your browser loads such an image, that website can see your IP address and browser details, as with any image on the web. Links to other sites (such as an author's Patreon or Ko-fi) take you to services with their own privacy policies.
6. Who else handles it
Nook uses a few services to run, each handling data only to provide their service to us:
- Supabase: our database, sign-in and file storage.
- Render: hosts the website.
- Our email provider, to send account emails.
- When payments arrive, a payment processor will handle card details; Nook will never see or store them.
7. Cookies
Nook uses cookies only to keep you signed in. Your browser may also store small preferences (for example which filter you last used) on your device. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
8. How long we keep it
We keep your account and content while your account exists. Deleted posts keep their text for moderators for a limited time for safety. If you close your account, we delete your profile and personal details; your posts may stay, credited to a deleted user, so that conversations still make sense, unless you ask us to remove them.
9. Your choices
You can edit your profile and delete your posts and works at any time. You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete your account and data. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under laws such as the GDPR; we'll honour them.
10. Children
Nook isn't for children under 13, and some works are rated for adults only. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, please tell us and we'll remove it.
11. Contact
For privacy questions or requests, post in Site Feedback or contact the site's developer. See also the terms of service.
